One of Vermont's oldest inns, operating for over 168 years, the Kedron Valley Inn has been the setting for many romantic cotillions, weddings, and social extravaganzas where bedecked suitors whirled their ladies through contras and quadrilles. In the 1860's, it harbored fugitive slaves traveling the Underground Railroad to freedom.

Today, the inn's rural pace and scenic surroundings offer a relaxing hideaway from the bustle of daily life. Most rooms have canopy beds and fireplaces or wood-burning stoves. Hooked rugs, antique rockers, heirloom quilts, needlepoint, and family memorabilia bespeak a time when life was simpler. Several rooms have private decks or terraces, and the bridal suite has a Jacuzzi. All rooms have private bath and television.

Our cuisine is tied for best in all Vermont. Prize-winning wines compliment candlelit dinners overlooking lush gardens and country roads, or by a cozy fire. And dining room dress is casual.

A summertime favorite is our large spring-fed swimming lake with two white-sand beaches. Nearby are hiking, historic estates, sleigh rides downhill and X-C skiing.

Count the Stars You've Nearly Forgotten
By bike, canoe, or foot, the great outdoors is just a step away. Miles of secluded trails wind through statuesque evergreens or to the bottom of a mini-Grand Canyon. Mount Tom in Woodstock is well known for its extensive hiking paths which ascend to a breathtaking view of the village green. And the country roads around the Inn offer peaceful night-time strolls and stargazing.

Explore Our Hillsides on Horseback
Within walking distance is a 30-horse stable with a wide range of mounts to suit all riding skills. Guided trail rides or horse-drawn sleigh or surrey rides through the woods are an unforgettable way to enjoy the countryside. The stable also offers lessons and boarding facilities.

Bask on the Beach
A large spring-fed swimming lake with two white-sand beaches is right in our own back yard. One beach has lifeguards, sand toys and inner tubes. Across the lake is a secluded beach for adults only. And whether you swim or not, lounging in the sun is absolutely glorious.

Ski 'til You Drop
The alpine areas of Killington, Okemo, Ascutney and Suicide Six are within 40 minutes. All offer equipment rentals and lessons and have extensive snow making. Both Killington and Okemo have registered child care and specialized instruction for kids. Woodstock Ski Touring, rated among the top ten cross-country ski areas in North America by Snow Country magazine, is just seven minutes away.

Quilters stitch their very souls into every seam of their quilts, often laboring over 20 years on a single coverlet. Their dedication and graphic talent is captured in the Inn's 60-piece museum-caliber quilt collection which includes family quilts, made by innkeeper Merrily Cornins' grandmothers and great-grandmothers.
One Postage Stamp quilt, over 100 years old, contains 3,206 tiny squares of fabric sewn together by hand. A Double Wedding Ring quilt is pieced from dresses and shirts that Merrily and her brother wore growing up.
Over the years, the collection has grown and now all the guest rooms have antique quilts. A lovely heirloom linen collection also graces the Inn.

Experience a Different Era
Stroll through the past at historic estates right in the neighborhood. Billings Farm's 1890 Farm House has won a National Award of Merit for historic restoration. Another, home of a famous sculptor, is punctuated with art and lavish landscaping. The Calvin Coolidge Homestead is regarded as the country's most authentically restored Presidential birthplace. Most estates are open May through October.

Capture the Fall's Flaming Countryside
In the Fall, Vermont's sugar maples splash the mountains with vivid hues of crimson, orange and yellow. Camera buffs head for The Jenne Farm, described by Yankee magazine as "the most beautiful place in New England". Covered bridges and scenic vistas abound, and just up the road is Woodstock, selected by National Geographic as one of the nation's ten most picturesque villages.

Max and Merrily Cornins purchased the Inn in 1985, and since then have been having a ball fulfilling a dream shared by many: leaving the hassles of the city behind to run an inn in the country.

Max graduated Harvard, studied piano technology, then rebuilt pianos while living and working on a horse farm. Finally, he spent eight years as a trader on Wall Street before moving to Vermont.

Merrily worked in an advertising agency, and moved on to become production manager at a national magazine. For the remainder of her 14 years in New York, she was an executive for a financial research company.
Their son Drew was born in New York, but likes Vermont much better. He sometimes helps his Dad host dinner or make the morning muffins.

Voted the single best inn in the country by the readers of a major guidebook, The Complete Guide to Bed and Breakfasts, Inns and Guesthouses, by Pamela Lanier.
Top ten inns nationwide, chosen by a panel of professional travel writers in a competition sponsored by Uncle Ben's, Inc.
"One of our favorite places to stay... a casual aura brightened throughout by Merrily's collection of quilts."
"A Victorian charmer... the 'nouvelle Vermont' cuisine reflects creativity and attention to detail."
"Max and Merrily manage the inn with great finesse and enthusiasm. The food is some of the best we've had in New England."

Since 1987, our chefs have been creating Contemporary American Cuisine centered around the finest local products. Their light and deftly seasoned sauces compliment the freshest seafood flown in within 24 hours of being caught. Native Vermont lamb, poultry and succulent beef come alive with fresh herbs from our garden. Typical temptations include: Kedron Valley Salmon in puff pastry, Sauteed Chicken Pistachio, and Roast Vermont Lamb with a honey-mustard sauce. Pastas, breads and desserts are made fresh daily, and vegetables are gently prepared, beautifully presented, and can make a meal for vegetarian guests. Our wine list has won annual Awards of Excellence from The Wine Spectator since 1993.

Breakfast at Kedron Valley is a hearty meal as well. To start: homemade-muffins or scones, fragrant and hot from the oven. Then you can choose from juices, pancakes, french toast, sausage, eggs or omelets.

The Vermont Country Wedding
What do our brides remember most? Is it the lush surroundings of evergreens and flower gardens, or the horse-drawn surrey ride from the little white church back to the Inn? Is it the whisper of freshly falling snow, the crackle of warming wood fires or the delicious food their friends just couldn't stop talking about?
Spending an entire weekend here with loved ones and long-missed friends makes the wedding experience much more lasting. Unlike a large resort or an afternoon's reception, an intimate inn invites a sense of sharing and connection for both families.
Our experienced staff, including a dedicated bridal coordinator, brings knowledge from scores of weddings to help you plan your own. Local florists, musicians, and photographers who know the Inn are very adept at long distance planning. Special festive menus and other personal touches are easy to arrange when the inn is "just yours" for the weekend.
We can host over 200 reception guests with space available for dancing. A large lawn area behind the Inn is suitable for an outdoor tent. And guests coming from afar can fly into an airport only 30 minutes away.
Call our bridal coordinator for more details on the Vermont Country Wedding.
