Located on the beautiful north Yuba river and watched over by the majestic mountains of the Sierra Nevadas, Helm's St. Charles Inn is situated in the small peacful community of Goodyears Bar. Originally known as The St. Charles Hotel, the Inn was built in 1864 and served as the main stage-coach stop between Nevada City and Downieville. Many pieces of the original Hotel furniture are being used in the decor to help capture the feeling of rustic simplicity.

Fishing, fly fishing, hiking, swimming, rafting, mountain biking, gold panning or just relaxing by the river are a few of the leisurely passtimes that can be indulged in.

For the explorer, Downieville is just four miles away. Fine dining and browsing through the shops can be enjoyed there. Sierra City is seventeen miles away and just minutes beyond that is historical Gold Lake.

Along with Gold Lake, Packer and Sardine Lakes can be enjoyed. Just over the hill from Gold Lake is Grayeagle, which features some of the finest golf courses in the area.

Breakfast

A continental picnic breakfast consisting of muffins, bagels, or sweetbreads, fresh fruit, juice and a carafe of your favorite hot beverage can be picked up in the dining room at 7:30 AM.
Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and apple cider are available at 7:00 am.

Our Rooms
Currently the Inn offers four rooms. Each room is named after a gold mine in the area and is decorated accordingly. All rooms have a private bath.

The Brush Creek Mine Room
The Brush Creek gives the illusion of stepping back in time to a cozy pioneer cabin. The Decor is done in soft russet, cream & terracotta with a scenic overlay. The features of this room are an antique oak double bed, an antique clawfoot tub with shower and a private deck overlooking the river.

The Blue Jay Mine Room
The Blue Jay is a collage of colors. Blue, mauves and white set the ambience of soft romantisism in this room. Along with an overview of the river this room features a set of twin beds and a small antique clawfoot tub.

The Morning Glory Mine Room
The Morning Glory is truly a morning glory. Decor ated in soft yellow and blue tones witha floral overlay, this room features a queen bed, antique clawfoot tub and a private deck.

The Monte Cristo Mine Room
The Monte Cristo features a large window that overlooks the Yuba River. Decorated in soft greens and golds with an ivy leaf motif, this room has a queen bed and a shower.

Hotel Policies

· Check in: 4:00 pm, unless prior arrangements are made.
· Check out: 11:00 a.m.
· No Smoking except on decks or by the river.
· Children under 10 not accepted.
· Rollaway bed $15 extra.
· Visa, Mastercard, cash and checks accepted.
· Reservations recommended.
· On advance bookings a one night deposit or credit card number to hold the room is required.
· Twenty four hour cancellation notice required or price of one night will be charged.
· Gift certificates available.
· Open year round.
· Cash and check only.
How to Get Here

From Nevada City: take Hwy 49 towards Downieville, approximately 39 miles. Turn right on Mountain House Rd. Go across bridge to stop sign. Turn Right, 2nd house on right.

From Downieville: take Hwy 49 towards Nevada City, 4 miles. Turn left on Mountain House Rd. Go across bridge to stop sign. Turn Right, 2nd house on right.
